Animation
“sum skate stuff”
In December 2021 I decided to create a short animation, a cartoon interpretation of various well-known skateboarding clips. This project was my first foray back into animation, a medium which I hadn’t played around with for a number of years. Back in elementary school, I used to create and watch cartoons on an animation program for the Nintendo DSI called “Flipnote Studio.” Ultimately, I ended up putting the DS down as I grew older and it wasn’t until around December of 2021 that I decided to play around with Flipnote again. In the time that had passed since I stopped using Flipnote as a kid, I had picked up skateboarding, something that has become one of the most important things in my life. Inspired by a number of animators online who I have seen animate skateboarding, I started working on “sum skate stuff”. The end result after 3 days was 168 frames with each frame of the cartoon being hand-drawn on my DSI by myself. This project means a lot to me because it takes me back to when I was ten years old all while incorporating skateboarding, one of my greatest interests.
